Sergeants

Has anybodys dog been hurt by Sergeants Flea and Tick Squeeze On For Dogs 9lbs to 20lbs?  This product is sold at most big box stores and it is very harmful to small dogs.  Please let me know if your doggie was hurt.

Did you use this product and have some complications?
I haven't heard anything yet regarding your product...
Tip: Wash your dog in Dawn Original Blue liquid dish soap, even vets use it...it will kill the fleas already on dog
I suggest using for under 15lbs product "Zodiac" sold at Petco and Petsmart, you put between back shoulder blades.....don't think Walmart carries it..its the squeeze on..
about $10.00   I have 5 chihuahua small dogs...
I always tell people treat your yard, you treat the problem, if cannot afford professional, go to Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, get the liquid Ortho flea spray in big ole' jug, and spray the yard and around the house for apprx $25+....reason for liquid, the yard can dry and dog can go out...
Put some salt in the carpet and under cushions in the house...
Hope these tips can help, and Welcome to the dog forum, keep us posted...

I  used Sergeants Flea and Tick removal Squeeze On for Dogs 9lbs to 20lbs. Both my dogs immediately started acting weird. They couldn't settle down or just chill. One of my dogs was hurting he kept trying to get his back ......(I think the product burned him). I felt terrible. He is the lazy dog that just comes in and gets in bed, well he could not stop rolling or looking at his back like something was hurting him. I gave them both baths the next day, one dog cried like a baby when I washed the area that was treated with Sergeants. It took 3 days for him to start to act normal. I think it's crazy they sell that product it is harmful. I would not use this product. After I went online and found all sorts of stories of dogs almost dieing from this product.

Hartz Mountain and Zodiac products are extremely dangerous for pets.  Zodiac is made by Hartz.  There were so many adverse reactions to the products that the FDA made Hartz remove several of their products from the stores.  Do a Google search for "Hartz Mountain Flea products, dangerous to pets" and you will find many links detailing the problems that have arisen from using these products.  The lower cost isn't worth the danger of using them.

The only flea products that are safe to use are the ones that are either sold by or recommended by veterinarians.  Remember, flea products KILL fleas.  They are very toxic.  Don't take a chance using grocery store brands just because the price is lower.  It's not worth risking your pet's health.

In my experience Frontline works very well, and doesn't cause my dog any problems. It was recommended by my vet, and I have heard good reports for it. I think it's one of the safest flea products. It's not the cheapest. But like Ghilly says, it's not worth trying to save a little cash, and putting your dog at risk.

I can validate a couple of points above.  Soon after Bandit came to live with us, we used the Sergeant's product on the 6-month old 12lb.Cockapoo & Shih Tzu mix.  He went berserk with trying to scratch his back, acting as though he was being burned.  It was non-stop.  I ended up giving him a good bath the next day using my late wife's Aveeno skin-calming body wash (OK, it was her idea, all right?  It worked! ;))

After that, we used a once-a-month pill purchased from our wonderful vet.  When the season ended, she gave us an as-needed pill, which he really never seemed to need very badly.

Now at 2 years and 17 lbs. (still well shaped), the vet advised using Frontline on him, and noted that it's now available over the counter, and cheaper than anything she could provide.  My new love told me that she uses it on her 6-lb. Silky Terrier with no problem.  She happened to have one dose of it left over, so she put it on Bandit a few days ago.  So far, he seems to be doing just fine.

Thanks to saveone for inadvertently leading me to realize that this forum is here.
