I know that puppiues like to chew and i have also heard that this breed in particular is known for it, but if we are giving him plenty of outside time and exercise, why does he insist on chewing cables, shoes, clothes, etc... he has bones, chew toys, regularRegular insulin toys, etc.. anyone have advice? =-)
I have 3 obessive chewers. It's tough, I feel your pain. One of our Dobes can eat those blackBlack cohosh Black draught Black haw Kong things, he's that powerful with his chewing.
We keep everything, and I mean EVERYTHING up off the floors and out of reach. When the dogs were puppies, they chewed the corners of every piece of furniture in the house, and all the arms of all the chairs.
They're way better now (the ages are from 7 to 2), so we just got new furniture that they've so far left unmolested.
You just have to watch 'em like a hawk, give a firm NO when caught chewing, and redirect to an appropriate chew toy and give praise when they chew that. Lots of walkies every day helps. Crate your puppy when you are not home.
Puppies chew. Limit their opprotunities to chew expensive or dangerous items, interrupt--correct--distract bad behaviors, and praise wanted behaviors. It takes a good while.
you could go to a pet store and get a product called bitter apple. Its a spray you spray on items that you don't want chew'd on. Spray it in furniture and cables. As for clothes and shoe all I can say is keep them up and away. We used to have a sheltie and he was a huge chewer.
