Split toenail
I am wondering if I should take my dog to the vet. He split his toenail, right  up the middle. There is no bleeding but he is gimping around on it and licking it, so it obviously hurts him. What should I do? Should I wrap it up for him or let it breathe? It is muddy outside so I don't want him to get it all dirty. Any suggestions on what I should do?

That just happened to my pup. I had to take him to the vet and they put him under anasthesia and pulled it out. I wasn't going to worry too much about it because at first it wasn't bothering him, but then he started limping and licking it. The vet wrapped it and sent me home with antibiotics and pain meds. It wasn't too expensive and he felt a lot better.
