Swollen head and neck 12yr old pit bull

The vet did blood work on the second visit and it came back normal. He said the only thing was the protein level was a little low. He gave her a steriod shot (on the 2nd visit) and today the swelling has gone down some,but its still quite swollen more on one side than the other. He said it could be a blockage it the lymphadic system and suggested x-rays and ultrasound.... I love my dog but times are hard right now.... Is it possible to try and control the problem with steriod pills....at least for a while till I can afford more test?

I think it would be better to get this thoroughly checked out, if you can find a way. If the condition goes on for too long it can result in some hardening of the tissues, and/or skin breakdown.
Is it possible to arrange some payment plan with your vet? Or maybe check around in your area for a sympathetic vet who can arrange a payment plan? Some will do this, if they know you are on a low income, and are genuine. Even if your current vet cannot arrange a payment plan for you because of their policies, if you have always paid your bills on time, even think of talking to your current vet about your financial problems, and asking for a 'reference' from him, which you could then present to the new vet. I know this sounds strange, but it might be the way to be able to afford diagnostics/treatment for your dog, while you are finding it hard to pay the bills.
