My Shih Tzu is a thrower upper too, usually her main reason is going too long on an empty stomach, she'll throw up bile, but that doesn't sound like your problem, but she will also throw up sometimes shortly after eating if the kids make the mistake of getting her to play too vigorously. So we try to let her "rest" a little while after she eats. I don't blame you for seeking info, I'd be weary of cleaning it up too.
I am feeding Blue brand right now.
Ok, not one if the best foods but do give this a try.......
Get a small bag of Pro Plan Salmon for sensitive stomachs, do a gradual switch. Ask your Vet about giving Pepcid instead of what you are using.
Feed twice a day and hold off on a lot of treats. If giving rawhide, stop that.
If she has a tendency to inhale her food, you can get a smaller bowl to put inside her bowl or even a good size, clean rock (not a size she could swallow). The purpose if this is just to slow down her eating too fast and too much at once. Cut down on a lot of activity fir a while after meals.
This has worked for my kid's dogs and others.
She throws up digested food. I'm feeding her Blue Buffalo Basics (salmon). She usually eats it all at once, sometimes she waits, but we haven't noticed a big difference.
Glad you spoke to the Vet and glad testing was done. Twice a week isn't what I would consider often. Does she throw up food, bile or what? In the mornings or different times? Does she eat slowly or woof (excuse the pun) down her food? What food are you feeding?
Hey Margot!
She's just over 2 years old. She's a mix, we know one parent was a rat terrier and the other parent was a pit bull mix.
I did address the problem with the vet a month or two ago. They gave some bland diet food and some prescription antacid type stuff to calm her stomach down. It worked for the most part, but there were still a few vomiting instances. She throws up maybe twice a week.
The vet said they weren't concerned (and I think they've done a fantastic job so far in my opinion, really pleased) because she hadn't lost any weight, there wasn't any loose stool, and that her temperament was fantastic. They said she doesn't exhibit any OTHER symptoms of a sick dog, including testing her blood and for worms.
How old is your dog? What breed? Dud you address this problem with the Vet?
