URGENT, SICK DOG

our minature dachshund, 3 years old is walking slowly, acting like one of his hind legs could be bothering him, stomach feels distended, and he is trembling, IS THERE ANY IDEA WHAT MAY BE WRONG? HE CAN'T SEE A VET UNTIL 4:30 P.M. MONDAY!

The trembling is severe PAIN.....Because Dachshunds are the #1 breed for Disc Disease, I'd say this is a back injury...It sounds as if he has herniated a Disc in his back....If it ruptures, he could end up paralyzed! The surgery to correct it (After Paralyzation) runs anywhere from $3000-$7000 depending where you live...

If you can get him into a Vet sooner, it will reduce his risk of a rupture....They will start him on Steroids & pain medication (Which he needs now!).....The steroids will help with the inflammation & hopefully with crate rest (4-6 wks.) & medication, he will recover well.

Can you drop him off at your Vet first thing in the morning (And leave him for treatment)? Or get him to an ER tonight? Time is very important right now....

DO NOT let him try to jump, run,  or even do one stair until he sees a Dr.... Only walk him (On leash) to potty and that's it. If you have a crate, put him in it till his appointment!

The pain is awful in this instance & both the steroids & anti-inflammatories will help tremendously....Please come back and let us know what happens...Good luck...Karla

I don't know what we're gonna do besides meds. Mama had been crying off and on and I don't know what to do. She wants a wheelchair, but they cost as much as a human one. We don't have the money for anything extra since the medium one to emergency vet who over charged to do a blood test and send him home. The way she is acting is of someone who is going to have a pet put to sleep.
