He sounds like he has developed anxiety and knows you are leaving.  You can check with a dog behaviorist to see what you need to work on.  Does he crate during the day?   Can you leave on some music or tv during  the day?  You could also give him a frozen treat filled kong while you are getting ready. I don't see a reason to get rid of him.  I'm sure the developing problem can be worked on.

Oh my gosh! Please do not 'get rid of him'. Please try to work with him and find a solution.

You really need a canine behaviourist. You could hire one....but of course that costs money. Are you willing to pay (as you would surely be willing to pay for a chiropractor if needed, or a dentist, or to get the car fixed...?)
Even one session a week with a good behaviourist would help. I don't know what that would cost. You need to research it.
Please do some work for and with your dear dog. I am sure he has many qualities which make you all love him. He just needs some guidance and control.

Note: You need a BEHAVIOURIST not a 'dog trainer'.

If you can't organise that for one reason or another -please do come back, and re-post here with an update.  We will pull together and do our best to help.
But my recommendation is get some one-on-one sessions with him.
