bad smell from dog

i have a 3 y/o beagle/grayhound mix, she came from a dog horder. we have noticed she has a very bad oder comming from her during the summer as well as winter. we bath her 1 a week, clean her ears with wich hazle, she is a medium size dog but very slender. she eats alpo dog food morning and night, i mix steak, carrots and potatoes with her food. we have had 3 dogs in 4 years each dog comming from the animal shelter, we had a doberman that was to ruff with the kids, we had a delmation that ended up have problems as she leaked fluids all over our home non stop and now this dog who will not gain weight and smells very bad. each dog we have gotten came from homes that were not fit for any aimals dog horder, abused and just not taken care of. everytime we go to a shelter we end up with a dog who needs alot of help, the delmation, was taken to my sister who was better able to take care of her medical needs and the doberman was taken to a farm in PA that has much more room for him to run and no kids, both dogs are happy. we love our dog we have now but we also have 3 childrn in the home and are embarassed to have ppl over due to the smell, we dont take our dogs back to the shelter but find ppl who are able to take on there care, the dog we have now is a dog we had gotten when our daughter was born and she is attached, we do not want to have to give her up! any ideas on how to eliminate the smell anything we can do?

sometimes dogs with scarcoptic manage have an odor to them. Please let us know what the vet says.

the smell does not seem to come from one certain area, her stools actualy are fine, her skin is dry and usualy becomes dry with weather change. at first i thought maybe the smell was due to heat but it goes on all year round. after i bath her the smell starts to come back the next day, her bed gets a bad smell. i was told that a dog with floppy ears if not cleaned can stat to smell and thats why i started to clean with which hazle. the smell i guess you can say comes from her whole body, her skin! im actualy going to call a vet and im going to have to take her. thank you for your feed back.

What does she smell like?  Does it appear to be coming from any particular area?  How does her skin look?  How are the stools?  Any vomiting?

Is the smell coming from his behind? If it is, it is his anal glands. It will smell very fishy. It's pretty easy to treat. I wouldn't do it myself though! Its gross. A vet or even a groomer can extract the fluid that gets trapped in the glands. When a dog goes poop, the glands are suppose to extract themselves, but its pretty common for them to get clogged up too. Good luck and good for you for rescuing these dogs in need......
