Hey Lorraine,I am glad to hear that Smokey is doing better.I was wondering about ya'll.If he was on steroids orally than he could continue with them.Otherwise If he was getting them with a triple antibiotic in the eyes then you would need to stop those until he is seen by his vet.Steroids can make an ulcer rupture on the eye that is why you would want to avoid them.I have a 6 month old Minature Schnauzer that has developed juvenille cataracts and within the next few months he will be getting surgery to fix his eys before his vision is completly gone. Please keep us posted
God Bless You.....Chan
thank you for your comment, smokey is up and his old self we have an appointment with the vet this week and I will ask about the eye .. and will not let him give any more steroids.. will keep you posted,,, thank you lorraine
His eye could have juvenile cataracts.Sometimes after anesthesia it takes awhile for them to get back to there everyday routine.I would by all means ask your vet about his eye again.Do you see an ulcer around his eye by any chance. If so then there is a possibility that he did injure his eye.And if that is the case then he will need a triple antibiotic ointment two to three times a day in his eye.WITHOUT any STEROIDS in it.It is just placed in the fold of the lower lid.Good luck and God Bless you. Please keep us posted.
If he's up and walking now, and is now eating....then that is something better than before. It could be he just had a kind of 'shock' reaction to the anesthetic and surgery?
It could be that there was some residual pain from the surgery. If dogs are feeling pain they often will not eat, and don't want to walk. If he is in pain, then a veterinary painkiller like Rimadyl could help him. (don't use Human pain meds)
Obviously, keep a careful eye on his progress. If he goes downhill again, go straight back to the vet.
smokey was neutered and had his tail bobbed he is on steroids and is up and walking is now eating.. has not returned to normal...
Poor little pup. I'm sorry this is happening to him.
What surgery did he have? It might help to have an idea what might be happening.
I am surprised the vet doesn't seem to know. Apart from giving him steroids (for inflammation of some kind, presumably)
