I know some vets around will actually let you write a check to them and they'll hold it until THAT day. Maybe you can try something like that. I sure hope that helps and she's okay !! As far as taking care of her while you're waiting I think that ginger gave you the best advice out there. Take care! I hope everything works out. One more thing, I was just wondering about the neighbor. Do you know the dogs owner? I'm not one for causing neighborly arguements or anything like this but maybe you can get the dog owner to either pay or help pay for her care. I know around here if your dog was in your yard and another dog comes in your yard and attacks it or you or destroys your property they go to the dog owner! I don't know the whole situation, just trying to throw some ideas out there. :)
You know, this gets to me. With quite a few companies, you can receive a service, then pay when you get the bill, (which might be the following week, or a few days later) or whatever. It's that way with SO many things, and somehow never that way with vets! I can understand they don't want the chance of being left high and dry without payment, but when you think you can order a batch of printing (or something) and pay for it a few days later, why the heck won't someone treat a sick dog and get the payment Friday!?
Sorry, that is me, venting.
Under the restricted circumstances, the best advice I can give you is to keep bathing that foot with antiseptic (for things like that I always use Echinacea Angustifolia herbal tincture which works excellently to prevent and treat even deep infection)
But if I were you I would get hold of some antibiotic powder or cream, Neosporin would be good, and apply that after bathing her foot with antiseptic. You could use Hydrogen peroxide 3% to flush the wound (and I would continue to do this at least 3 times a day) Then gently dry it with something very clean (a dry cloth which has been previously boiled to sterilize it will do) Then apply the antibiotic cream/powder.
Do you have a cone collar? Or could you improvise one with some strong plastic in which you can make little holes at the smaller end, to attach it to her collar with string? She will be tempted to bite or lick at the wounds, and that's not such a good idea.
Puncture wounds can be very bad, and set up an infection, so you need to keep right on top of that.
This sounds quite bad, so the main issue is get her to the vet as soon as you can. She may well need an antibiotic shot to either prevent, or treat the spread of infection. There is a good chance that if you can really keep on top of what is going on in her foot, she might be ok till Friday.....It's a bit of a risk, but I realize there's not much else you can do....
I know what it's like to be on the edge financially, because I am, too. I am not suggesting you have to do this, but I did go overdrawn at the bank a few months ago because my dog needed treatment I didn't have the money in my account for. As far as I was concerned, it was my only option. There was no other. I had to make do with little money the next couple of weeks in order to catch up with myself financially.
