Saw this the other day but saw you got the response I would have given. Yes, try bread and you can even add a little olive or cooking oil on it. Main thing is to watch for any signs of pain or blood in the stool. It should pass. I feed *raw* turkey necks to our Greyhound and used to feed *raw* chicken necks to my Shelties.
Years ago, when everyone gave dogs bones, my parents gave our Doxies pork chop bones. Cut up the insides of one of them so bad, we almost lost her. Glad nobody recommends that anymore.
Ah, that was nice of your son to tell you that. Sounds like something one of my kids would say to me. LOL!!!
Thank you so much for your advice and comments! It made me feel so much better. I saw online that a lot of people suggested the white bread and immediately gave her some. She will eat anything so that was not a problem. She hasn't shown any problems since, and the other end is just fine! :)
My 22 year old son sent me into panic mode when he was convinced I had killed our little 15 lb. bundle of joy!
When I first knew my dog she had been used to scrounging food, and raiding trash...well one night I cooked a chicken for guests, and unthinking, put the bones in the trash. My dog raided it! All I saw left on the floor was very little (ie she must have gone through a lot of bones there!) I was so scared and called the vet immediately. They suggested exactly what Karla has recommended.
Now, unbelievably....she was just fine. I gave her some bread (which she was happy to eat) and there was no trouble at all. I honestly don't know how she got away with it but she did.
i hope your little dog will be just fine too. Keep a close eye on her, and anything that comes out (or doesn't come out) the other end. Anything untoward -take her immediately to the vet.
Did she chew it up or swallow it whole? If the bone was RAW and she chewed it up, she should be fine...If it was COOKED, then it can be dangerous....
I'd feed her some bread to try & coat the bone fragments as they pass through her digestive system...
You need to watch for signs of blockage: Vomiting and/or NO pooping can be a sign....Blood in her stool would be a clue of trouble, also....
Watch her closely.....The bone should pass by tomorrow....Good luck, Karla
