doggie nightmares?

when my chiguagua is sleeping, he SOMETIMES moves his paws and gasps for air. this only lasts for about 20 seconds before he wakes up. i was just wondering if this is serious and if he should see a vet. or if its just that he has night mares.

If your doggy's breathing fine during the day, and doesn't have any funny turns, or breathing problems, or isn't over tired in the day, it sounds like this is just dreams. My dog whimpers, makes sad barky-sounds, like a pup that's been whipped! yelps, runs, howls (she did that, weirdly, when I was watching a film about wolves!!) And she is very healthy and happy in the day. I let her have her dreams, because she has her own wild battles to fight. But when she wakes up I stroke her, and give her a hug.

i have a yellow lab that does the same thing, he may  whimper or just start barking or maybye even jump up and go look out the window i dont think you have anything to worry about they are just like us and some dreams are a little different than others

My puppy does this. Sometimes he acts nervous, and other times he kicks his legs, grunts, and wags his tail like crazy. I wake him up if I think he is having a bad dream. haha

I suspect he's just dreaming.  My dogs do the same thing - day or night. LOL!  Sometimes they even bark pretty loud and wake themselves up like, "Where's that squirrell?!"
