dog's lump

Our mix breed( huskie, miniture collie, lab, retriever,99 percent spoiled) has quite the red lump on his toe.The first vet said it would cost thousands to remove. This vet said the whole toe would have to come off.We took him to another doctor who said it was benign, it was a sign of old age.Another said it was a blood clot and if drained would not stop bleeding. The dog is 14 years old .Who do we believe? Do we seek a 4th opinion?
How do you download pictures on here so I can send a picture?

I would still get this checked out at the vet's. If it is something and nothing, then maybe it's best left alone at this stage? But if it is something slightly more sinister, it really should come off. If your dog is as fit as he sounds, I am sure he would be ok with surgery (if needed) But for peace of mind, get it checked.

Older dogs do get a few extra lumps and bumps. Many of these are benign. Usually, unless the lump is cancerous, or is badly infected and no medicinal treatment will work, or causing pain or discomfort, or inability to walk properly, it can be left alone. How do you feel about this lump? Is your dog showing pain of any kind, or has he developed a limp?

Older dogs CAN be fine with surgery to remove things (generally) If they are srong and fit for their age, and have no other illnesses, and have well-functioning vital organs. But usually they can be at greater risk not only from the effects of anesthetic, but added complications. The older a dog gets, the greater the risk. So my instinct would be to subject your dog to surgery only if it were essential.
