I have some ondansetron 8mg for vomiting for me what would be the dosage for a dog that has terrible motion sickness in car

I have a Chihuahua and she weighs about 3-4 pounds. What dosage of Zofran should I give my sweetie Pie??  She became sick a few days ago, and we are on vacation away from our regular veterinarian. I am extremely worried about her. She is 10 months old and my husband bought her for me October 31, 2013 because I had a Chihuahua that would've turned 13 years old October 7, 2013 but she was killed by my neighbors dog. Sweetie Pie is 10 months old as I said previously and she is vomiting, and she has some diarrhea. She isn't acting like herself. She did become overheated and that is when these problems started.  I have been giving her a teaspoon pepto bismol every 4 hrs, and a teaspoon of Gatorade every hour. I am going to try beef/chicken and rice soft food today, which will be a bland diet. Can I give her some Zofran? If so how much would I give her?  Any other suggestions at all PLEASE HELP....  I am holding her to keep her as warm as I can. I have called her veterinarian and he told me to do the pepto bismol and Gatorade. She is still vomiting and having diarrhea but not as much. I would not give a dog that medication. I would give the dog Dramamine and make sure you don't let your dog eat before going for a ride in the car.

Still don't know the size of the dog but when I showed dogs, they would be all washed and groomed.  I had a couple that didn't throw up but salivated heavily in the car.  Before we left, I would put larger size baby bibs on them.  Walla!  No messy dogs. :-)

My boy used to get car sick too but I did exactly what Margot did and hes a much better rider.  I used to use Dramamine 25mg, that is what the vet told me to use (he weights 80 lbs).  Also make sure your pup doesnt eat a hole lot before the trip, less to clean up after. :-)  Good luck!

Zofran?  That is a pretty strong med.  I have heard of it being used in dogs going through Chemo but I would not use that without consulting a Vet first.

Have you tried Dramamine or Ginger?

What breed and size dog is this?  How old?  You could try a ginger capsule in something like lunch meat, cheese or pill pocket.
I have had success using Ginger Snap cookies about 30 mins before leaving and take some along with me.  Fostered a Greyhound here that was going to an adoptive home 2 states away and was going to be driven there. She got terribly sick in the car.
I started using the a ginger snaps and taking her fir short rides around town.  Made sure she got plenty of fresh air in the car and ride facing frontwards.  She eventually acclimated and made the trip fine.  This might work if the dog just needs to get used to traveling.  If it isn't actually a physical problem, it is often nerves and anxiety.
Have an adopted Chi mix here that was throwing up when I first got her, used this method and she is much better now.
