Dear Annette, I am so sorry. This is the kindest thing we can do for them when they are in great pain and there is no longer any way forward, but it tears our heart to give them what they really need at the very end. I know.
It is too late now I realise, but many vets will come to your home, if you need to have home euthanasia...but that is where I live -in the UK....and I have no idea how vets usually work in Sacramento.
Of course, the bill will be higher, but they will do it (here.)
would the vet come to your home to give the shots?
totally feeling your pain Annette. I have wondered what it would take to be licensed to euthanize pets. There definitely is a market for it and surely it doesn't need to be a vet.Have you asked your vet if he/she would consider it? or refer you to a vet that would?. I would want to give my dog the best day possible with her best meal and to be lying by my side when she is gently nudged out of this life.
