excessive urination

excessive urination

My 6 month old puppy still has a problem with excessive urination. Ever since we brought him home I've had a hard time training him to pee outside. He also pees in his kennel all the time. He will sometimes pee in his kennel 3 or 4 times over night even  let him out right before I go to sleep.  There has been no change in this behavior. He also seems to have an obsession with drinking water. I'm almost at my wits end with him. I don't want to get rid of him but I don't know what to do.

Do you take his water away from him early in the evening, like seven o'clock?   It might help him hold it during the night if he doesn't drink right before bed.  When you take him outside, does he pee, or wait till he gets back inside? Also, take him to the exact same spot that he's peed on before every time he goes outside.

Have you taken him to the vet?
Excessive urination and drinking lots of water could be a sign of diabetes or kidney disease.I would take him to the vet and get a blood and urine test and talk to the vet and make sure the above is not the cause and then go from there.

That doesn't sound like a training problem at all.  He needs to see a vet and most likely blood work as a starting point.  There is something medically wrong.

I did speak to the vet about it when he's gone for his shots, because like I said it's always been an issue, and the vet seems to think he's fine.
And yes, I take away his water at night. I take him out often, and bring him to the same spot. He usually always pees outside, but there was one day he didn't pee outside and did as soon as he came in. But he may have been angry at me that day because that's not usually the issue.

Please take your dog to another vet. I have taken my dog's to many vets for the same thing and some know things others don't. Your dog is ill, this is not normal.  That vet you have might be fine for somethings, but he is just brushing it off as a "puppy thing".
Since I have several dogs and always seem to be going tothe vets, I bougth one book called Hound health and it has been useful to understand what signs of illness to look for and when it is a need to get to the vet.
My young girl at 5 months was doing this and it turned out to be at UTI.  :(
