fish oil capsules

fish oil capsules

our 12 year old min has some problems with his leg (hind leg). He still walks every day for about 30 minutes,
climbs stairs and jumps on chairs. He also has as mild kidney disease with no symptoms, due to old age.
He is fed a low phosphorus diet, home cooked food only.
We give her every day 1000 mg fish oil capsules and noticed an improvement with her leg problem and also
and increase in her energy and appetite ?
Any suggestions about the doses ?
Thanks for your answer.

Well I'm not sure about fish oil doses. I know it is possible to give too much, but am absolutely unsure what's right or wrong....

But I give my dog Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplement for joint support instead. She had a broken leg a few years back, and I think was starting to develop some arthritis, because when the weather turned damp, or when she got up after resting, she sometimes limped slightly on that leg, or 'hitched' it now and again when walking, even though she was (and still is) very energetic.
So I started the Glucosamine/Chondroitin in the Spring this year. She weighs 28lbs, and I give her one capsule (500mg Glucosamine and 200mg Chondroitin) every morning without fail.
There was a marked difference in her only a few DAYS after starting this treatment. At first, I wasn't certain it could have that marked effect so soon. But I carried on with it, and for sure, it works. Honestly, she has not limped, or 'hitched' that leg ONCE since, and has continued to be as energetic as usual.
So basically I'm singing the praises of Glucosamine and Chondroitin. I would definitely recommend trying this.
I can't remember exactly what the dosages are now, but I researched correctly when I started her treatment, and got the dose right for her weight.(28lbs) So running from that, I would calculate how much to give your Min Pin from how much she weighs. (how much does a Min Pin weigh?) If she weighs 14lbs, I would break open the capsule, (of Glucosmine 500 and Chondroitin 200) and give her half of it every day.

Or you could ask your vet for advice.

But another thing I discovered is -it's just fine to use the Glucosamine/Chondroitin which is sold for humans. And it is a LOT cheaper than veterinary preparations. (I buy from a trusted supplier on ebay, and get 90 capsules...3 months supply....for £4.99 (British Pounds) which is the best deal I have found in the proportions I need for my dog. The only thing is, in a veterinary preparation, the proportions of the meds are ready-calculated for you, and suitable for her weight. Otherwise, you'll have to figure it out.
