funny grunting noise :-(

my dog,Leo, is making this very funny sound when i come home from work or when anyone comes into my house. it seems to happen when he is very excited. its a grunting noise. im not sure if it could be kennel cough or if its just something that hes doing for no reason. all of his shots are up to date. when he starts the grunting it takes a few minutes for him to calm down and stop most of the time i have to pick him up so he can stop. if anyone has any ideas of what this can be i would really appriciate any help. thanks

Hello & welcome.....Google "Reverse Sneeze" and see if that's what your dealing with......It is common in Toy Breeds & harmless.......

You don't say how old Leo is; if he's a senior and this cough is due to excitement, then you need to have him screened for CHF (Congestive Heart Failure)...This is also common and the sooner it's caught, the easier it is to control.....Just like humans, Dogs can live many years on medications for heart disease....

Next would be, Heartworm Disease.....When was he last tested for heart worms? These will cause a cough when excited, also.....A blood test can rule them out.....

Let me know what you think & good luck....Karla
