human glucosamine for dogs

ive been giving my dog which is 17kg 1000mg of glucosamine every day for a week which i will now reduce to 500mg a day is there any thing else i should give him with this or is glucosamine alone ok my dog has early signs of arthritis in his back legs its a bit of an effort for him to get up now he is 10 yrs 3mths old and had cruciate ligament surgery back in may last yr and in the other leg about 5 to 6 yrs ago

Added benefit comes from MSM(For Pain) at 500mg 2@day....
Chondroitan - 500mg 2@day.....
Omega 3 fatty acids also help.....I prefer Salmon oil...

You can buy many supplements that are a combination of the above listed...I would go to a healthfood store to purchase one...NOT a discount center or grocery store.....

Glucosamine is fine to give your dog. I recommend also following with flaxseed oil, as it enhances the absorption of the glucosamine. Good luck!

My husky is 13 years old. A few years back her arthritis was so bad she yelped just getting up to a sitting position. We took her to the vet and after having a few injections of anti inflamatories and pain shots she has since been taking vetprofin 100mg daily with food. This medication has made such an enormous transformation in her well being. Shes like a puppy!! Its been several years now, and shes still doing great! We added glucosamine to her daily regiment too. thanks for your advice my friends dog actually has been yelping now and then when getting up so this info will help alot as for my dog ive just been giving him the glucosimine for a yr now and he is doing great i now only give it to him a couple times a wk and no signs of him struggling any more
