kennel cough?

hi i have a 2 1/2 yr old weimeraner for the last 4 days she has been coughing and kind of heaving but nothing comes up, she is also breathing (how can i explain) like sucking air in, the coughing and the breathing only happens now and again although i notice the cough is getting worse, i have been in touch with my vets and have an appointment in the morning, i just wondered if anyone had any ideas what it could be ie kennel cough (although she hasnt been in kennels) im worried sick its her heart but the vet said so long as her gums aint blue and she isnt having any actual breathing problems she will be fine till the morning!!!! im so scared im gonna lose her although she is eating well, still playing and ready permenantly for a walk.

I'm glad to hear you have an appointment with your vet tomorrow.  Your dog is definitely sick with something and needs medical help.  Kennel cough refers only to tracheobronchitis that is caused by highly infectious organisms like bordatella, parainfluenza and mycoplasma.  Historically this dog flu/ bronchitis has been called Kennel Cough because of the high infection rate and spread when many dogs are in contact with one another.  Being in a kennel has nothing to do with it other than allowing the disease to spread faster.  Kind of like small children going to preschool when they have the mumps.

Since she is doing OK other than the cough, I wouldn't worry too terribly much.  Hopefully your vet will be able to determine what bug it is and knock it out quickly.
