There IS a medication called ivermectin that can be administered either orally or parenterally (injected) that is excellent for the treatment of mange. Ask your vet if they have ivermectin or something similar in the UK. The only drawback with ivermectin is that it cannot be used (at least not safely) in collies, shetland sheepdogs, Australian shepherds, bearded collies or, if you want to stay on the safe side, any herding breed. There is an issue with the thinness of the blood brain barrier in these breeds in that it allows the molecules to pass through, and ivermectin toxicosis is almost a given in these breeds. Since you have a boxer, if ivermectin is available in the UK, this would be a good option for you to look into.

thanx for response will phone vet marley seems a little beter today
Yes, I'm sorry, but I don't know either of these medications either, though I'm in the UK myself. Once my other dog had mites (late '80's this was) and he was given a shot by the vet which cleared it immediately. But I'm afraid I haven't a clue what the vet gave him in that shot!
I advise you to speak to your vet. Obviously you'll have to wait till Monday, as this doesn't sound like an emergency. But Monday morning, do ring them, and enquire, or take your dog in for the vet to see him.
I can honestly say that I don't know. I am not familiar with either one of these medications, since you are in the UK and have different preparations. I don't know what side effects they are capable of producing.
You might try posting in our "Ask A Vet" forum. There is a link to that forum further down this page on the right hand side. Please let us know what the vets say.
