my dog keeps attacking me whenever someone else comes home

hey there, my name's theo. my mom has two dogs, and usually they're both fine, but recently one of them has been attacking me. he's a pit bull, probably about 4 years old, and over the last few days, every time someone else comes home he comes and tries to bite me. he's never tried to do this before, and he could easily jump and be as tall as I am, so I'm pretty scared right now.

I was thinking that maybe it could be the sound of the garage door opening or something? the first time he did it, I had to open the door into the garage so I could lean out to press the button to open the real garage door, so my mom could pull her car into the garage. then, immediately after I came inside again, he came for me and bit my arm a few times. I had to throw a laundry basket at him to get him to stop trying to bite me, and then I ran into the bathroom so I could clean my arm and get away from him.

today was the first day that I was in a room with him again, and our room mate was pulling into the garage, and the dog heard it and immediately came and tried to bite me again. I was wearing a jacket with pajama pants that had the legs rolled up to my knees, and he went straight for my exposed legs. luckily, my mom was with me and she was able to yell at him and get his attention away from me long enough for me to go upstairs.

I'm really scared of this dog now, and I have no idea why he's doing this. :(

You first need to take your dog to a vet to make sure there is  nothing wrong with him that could be making him act this way, such as a mass on the brain.  If his health checks out OK, then you need to get in touch with a very well recommended canine behaviorist because a dog like this is a liability to have around.  Don't risk not doing this because if your dog ever escapes or if someone comes into your house and the dog decides to act out you will be in for a very large lawsuit.  Pit bulls are on the blacklist of most communities, some have banned them altogether, so be proactive and take care of the problem before your dog goes after somebody besides you.  You don't want it going after you, either, but if it goes after other people it is extremely dangerous to everyone's welfare.

Ghilly gave you good advice.  Is he neutered?  Have you had anyone come in the house without using the garage door opener? That may be a trigger, for some reason.  Yes, consult the Vet and a behaviorist.  My concern is that he will do more damage to you or someone else!  Hate to say it, but you might want to consider using a muzzle until you can figure this out.
