My dog also used to get into the cat box and try and eat her poop! Yuck! We kept the catbox in the basement so we tried something. We put up one of those invisible fences over the doorway of the basement and put on the collar that gives them a little shock. We only had to use the collar for about two weeks, after that he never wanted to go in the basement again, so we took the collar off him. I hated to do that, but it worked. I don't know if this is helpful or not. We did this years ago and he still doesn't try to go into the basement anymore. Just thought I'd share what we did.

My Basset Hound used to eat Cat poo. He loved it! I talked to a vet and they told me  it's because the poo contains food particles that haven't been digested so the dog thinks its food.
YUCK.

My lab still eats poo at 1 year.  Nothing stops her except removing it from view.  I tried most remedies on the market.  It's sometimes a game, who gets to it first. Or she just eats it because she's alone with it.  No idea why.  She's done it since birth.  I've had other dogs that don't do it at all.

Now I just make sure she gets her teeth brushed on every grooming :)
