post surgery complications

my dog is 7 yrs old and his whole life he has been finding socks, eating them and passing them. this time he couldnt pass it, it was stuck in his intestane. he had the surgery 1 week ago. the past 5-6 days he has no medications because he wont eat. He is still not eating and still vomitting and or spitting up after drinking. he had a fever of 103.2 it is not his pancreas. he had an ultra sound and he has a little fluid where the sock was removed. what can be done?

Oh no.  :-(  It sounds like he may have a tiny hole where the resection surgery was done.  It's not an uncommon problem in people or animals after this kind of surgery.  What that means is that your dog may be developing peritonitis as his feces slowly leaks into his abdominal cavity.   This is a VERY serious problem.  If his symptoms continue much longer, a second surgery may be necessary to explore and repair the leaking area - IF that is the problem.

Intestines don't like being messed with at all, and they sometimes go on strike after resection surgery.  It can take days to a few weeks for full function to return.  That just means that the usual muscular motion that keeps waste moving through doesn't happen.  Any food that goes into the system will just sit there and cause nausea and vomiting.

Your dog must have antibiotics at the very least.  If he can't hold down oral antibiotics, he'll need to stay at the hospital for IV therapy.  What does your vet have to say about these symptoms?
