puppy hernia

Hi I have a 4 month old shih tzu puppy, I love him dearly. He got nuetered as well as a hernia repair , his hernia ended up coming back out that day. I'm a little concerned about him. He seems very uncomfortable, skiddish, scared, that's not like my pup :( advice please!

Hi Meg & welcome......Did they send him home w/ any pain medication?

I had a Foster dog neutered yesterday...Picked him up this morning....He' was given an injection for pain after surgery, then was sent home with oral meds. for 4 days.....

He's asking normal & wants to play with the others...I am having to moniter that! :(

There has been No whining or crying or acting strange......He hasn't even tried to touch his incision!

You need to call your Vet first thing in the morning and request something for pain for your guy........The way I chose which Vet that would do mine's surgery  was based on which clinic practiced pain management.....That was my deciding factor......

Good luck and I hope he feels better soon....Karla

Thank you! He just had the surgeries today, and it happened while he was in recovery at the vets. It was a large hernia :( they are going to do it again in two weeks. I called them they said he didn't cry there at all just barked, which he does bc he has anxiety away from me. :( but now all he is doing is running in circles trying to get at the incission and crying.

Take him back to the vet and let the vet see the recurrance of the hernia.  Most of the time hernias are not operated on unless they are quite large, so there must have been a reason they decided to repair it.  I wouldn't let it go.  I would at least call the vet and tell him what happened and let him advise you on what to do.
