pyometra

My 8 year old was diagnosed with pyometra today. She did not show any symptoms of anything til sun. We thought she was pregnant and going into labor. She lost her appetite yesterday and went from leaking a clear fluid on sun to a dark brown mucous Mon and Tues and today it was actual blood. She now can not even hold water in her stomach. She can't walk and has done nothing but lay where ever she gets put down. The vet said she needs a blood transfusion tomorrow to go into surgery. Our dog looks like she has nothing left in her. At this rate can she pull through it?

I don't know where you are located. Does 'tomorrow' mean a whole night away, or just a couple of hours for you?
The reason I'm asking is I think she needs emergency surgery -right now. Call your vet if you think there is still a long time to wait till the scheduled surgery. If it is still the early hours of the morning where you are, ring your regular surgery, and the telephone number of an emergency out-of-hours on call vet will usually be given. Tell them her condition has deteriorated, and ask them if they can do the surgery now.

If she is generally a strong healthy dog she could still make it. If you have the time, please do let us know what happens. May God bless you and your dog. I'm praying for you both.

Hello, did your dog make it? I lost my 10 year old dog, Gypsi, 2 days ago due to Pyometra. It is a deadly disease that needs to be attended to ASAP. It affected my dog so quickly. I was not aware that she had Pyometra until it was too late. The first vet I took her to said it was a liver infection and a second one said its Pyometra but she was already very weak and the illness has progressed quite far by then. So the vet suggested we continue giving antibiotics and water and food supplements with a dropper. I had hope that she would make it till the end but unfortunately on New Year's day, she passed away. It seems her only chance would have been surgery, IF I had found about this illness early enough. In the last few days before she passed away, she rejected anything we gave her, even water, and she would just lie on the same spot, not being able to stand on her legs for more than a few seconds. I wish a vet could have performed surgery on Gypsi and that I had found out about the illness earlier..
