shitzu bald spots

I have a 1yr old shitzu, a couple months ago we noticed a bald spot on her side. We took her to the vet he did not know why, we took her back again and he said maybe it was hormones since she had recently been in heat. It finally grew hair back and now there is another bald spot in another area. It is not red, flakey, or hot, just bare skin. She does have very dry skin but we dont notice her biteing, she scratches somewhat but not really where the bald spot is. Does anyone know why she is doing this?

That could be sooo many things. Your vet should be able to figure out what the problem is. I would get another vet, this one doesn't sound like he/she is interested in helping your dog. Just my opinion, but I wouldn't waste my time with that vet.

Bald spots could be a number of things from ringworm, allergies, thyroid etc. I agree find another vet who can do some bloodwork, scrapings and a culture. Good luck!

i agree with the others. it could be a number of things. one thing that comes to mind is anxiety. has their been any change in her lifestyle? even a recent illness can do it. also allergies. i would try another vet for a second opinion. your vet might be right, it is so hard to know for sure. but a second set of eyes may help. maybe they will have enough sense to do some testing to rule out anything serious. hope you find an easy and simple answer. goodluck!
