spayed female 4yr pees on beds

i have a four year old spayed female brown lab x pointer x setter.  I got her at a pound when she was 10 months old and spayed already. She has been the best dog i've ever encountered (no really...not being biased... she is incredibly smart and loving)  Ever since i've had her (from day 1)  she has NEVER had an accident in the house besides vomiting or diarrhea.  Just recently, she peed on my bed and acted very guilty as i was smelling it trying to figure out what it was in disbelief.  I was gone at work while she did it, but my two roommates were home to let her out all day.  I was dumbfounded and shocked.  Two weeks later i was gone for four days while she was in my roommates and girlfriend's care.  It turns out that right after my girlfriend had walked her she peed on my roommates bed in the same exact spot, but different bed.  Once again i had no idea to make of it.  Was she trying to get back at me for being gone?  I have been away many of times with her in great care with no incident.  Now, two weeks later from bed pee #2, i come home from class, to find that she has peed on a futon!!!  All different beds!!???  She goes skiing with me and plays frisbee every day!? She is out side in a fenced yard all the time, when ever she wants!   what is going on? please help i don’t know what to do.  She is never neglected or unloved, what is going on?

I'm glad that you took her to the vet, got her checked out, and are getting her treated.  It's tough when our best friends can't tell us what's wrong.

If she was urinating in her sleep it was probably because she had been holding it in (because it hurt to urinate) then couldn't hold it when she fell asleep.

I'm so glad that she's on the road to recovery.

Talk to your vet about giving her cranberry supplements too.  They won't clear a UTI but can help prevent future ones by increasing the Ph of the urine.   Something that many human females know.  :-)

n hind sight...  when she would pee normally it would be in small volumes, possibly over stressed pee tries.   but when she peed on the bed it was in unusual high volume. she was most likely peeing on the beds when she was asleep.     i take another pee sample to the vet in two weeks after she takes all of here antibiotics to make sure the infection is gone and make sure its not the other common low estrogen level problem in conjunction.  All in All the vet visit + urine test + antibiotics were only $60.     In addition the vet said that its probably not a low estrogen level due to her young age.    hope this helps those that are as clueless as i was in the future...she was just trying to tell me that it hurt her to pee!!!

Get her checked with your vet for urinary tract infection, kidney stones, etc.  Urinating like this is a sign that there is something going on with her urinary tract.
