spot on tongue

hi there.  thanks for the help with the itching.  

do yo have to anesthetize a dog to do a tongue biopsy?  she had her teeth cleaned just last week.  the spot is a depressed area that's a little larger than an eraser head with irregular borders.  it is growing slowly & a new small spot next to it has developed in the last year.  i'll do it if i have to, but can you biopsy a tongue without going under?  something tells me it might be too traumatic for the animal.

It would be very difficult to biopsy a dog's tongue without some sort of sedation or anesthesia.  Do you have pictures of the area?   Did the veterinarian say anything about this at the time of the teeth cleaning?

You might post this question (about the spot on the tongue) in the Ask A Vet Pet Dentistry forum here.   I am sure one of our DVMs can help give you some good feedback about possibilities.

Hi.  Thanks for the response.  I uploaded a photo to my homepage & posted in the forum that you mentioned.  No- the vet didn't say anything before the cleaning.  I saw her associate today, & the assoc. vet. mentioned the biopsy.  It's not from tissue irritation or anything like that.
