suddenly breathing hard

I was out all day Saturday had to leave Lucy-Lou home but later on in the evening she started to breath heavy and hard like when your about to give birth...then she would cough.  This would only last about 20 mins. Sunday I took her for a walk and half way through the walk she stopped did the same thing.  I picked her up walked by to the house. About 2hrs later she did this again for about an hour.  I took yesterday off to see when she did it again I was going to high tail it to the vet but she hasn't done it since.  Is this a sign of a cold or what.....if Lucy was a cat I'd think she was coughing up a fur ball but Lucy-Lou is my 19 month old cross from a Maltese and toy poodle

Thank You  Karla ....I took Lucy to the vet and he basically said I would need blood work and some other test to see...if I can get video and bring her if this happens again.  I haven't seen Lucy doing again and she's like a shadow around me...loves her.   I'll keep you posted on her progress.

Welcome---Be ready & the next time it happens, try to video it to show your Vet......There are too many things this could be that I hesitate to speculate on it......

My first thought is simple "Reverse Sneeze", but yours are lasting way too long!
Then I thought about Kennel Cough, which is a possibility....

I personally wouldn't wait; just in case it's something serious that needs to be treated......Good luck & let us know what you find out......Karla
