training ?

hi.  i own a great pyrenees who is territorial. no surprise there. just the basic barking at dogs who come around the house and car.  & she'll become territorial of a spot if she given a lot of attention from people. the dog next door usually sets her off by barking, and she will run to the fence to make some additional comments.  but, she started barking after she eats for no apparent reason.  she'll finish her food and turn around and bark at nothing. does anyone know why?

I have a Great Pyrenees.  They do enjoy barking.  Why don't you bring your dog in to eat?  We make meal time a big production.  I bring in both the dogs, have them sit on the dog beds...and then I begin preparing their meal.  They listen to every sound in great anticipation, (my husband tells me this from the living room).  Then I set their bowls down in front of them, and the feast begins!  Our GP just loves that family time/attention.  Surprising, because we about had to force it on him- you know the temperment.  And at night, I bring him in to sleep really just to keep my older dog (who has cancer) company-  initially he hated to come in- against the old GP nature- but now he loves the attention, and waits up at the door all hours until he's let in.   GPs love attention, though they don't want to admit it, (and will most probably resist it at first).  I'd say your dog is just barking to announce to the world that he has finished eating-  he wants attention-  bring him in and love on him! Handle him alot-  hug all over him and get him used to it, whether he like it or not... he'll eventually crave your attention, and be much easier.
