we have a 16 and half female dachshund that has congestive heart failure as well as kidney failure. she has now started to bleed from her vagina. we are not able to get to our vet right now, because of a snow storm that hit our area. what can we do until we can get to the vet?

Is your girl spayed?  If she is not spayed, the bleeding and discharge can be a symptom of pyometra, a life threatening infection of the uterus.  Snowstorm or not she needs to be seen by a vet, it could very well be a matter of life or death if it's pyometra.

She could also have a urinary tract infection, but you didn't mention that she was trying to urinate frequently among her symptoms.  The fact that she has CHF and renal failure surely do complicate the issue.  Because she IS in renal failure, that could actually mean that she has developed a bacterial infection in her urinary tract because her kidneys are not flushing correctly.

You need to try your hardest to get her to a vet in the morning.  I know it's difficult because of not only the snowstorm, but it is Saturday and most vets are only open until noon on Saturdays, but in her case, because of her advanced age and her compromised health status ALREADY, she needs every bit of help she can get to get past this.  Also, if she is not spayed and it IS pyometra, it will mean emergency surgery, and while I don't want to upset you by any means, I have to be honest and say that in her condition, surgery would be very difficult for her to endure, IF you could find a vet that would agree to do it with all of her health problems.  I will say prayers for her tonight that you are able to get her to the vet in the morning and that it is just something that be brought under control with an antibiotic.  Please post back and let us know what the vet said.

Your elder lady is 16+ years old,she has 2 major
health issues, she may have a UTI (urinary tract
infection) she could have crystals in her bladder
which can cause bleeding, she may also have a
infection in her vagina.
Is she straining when she trys to urinate? Is she
squating several time when she urinates but is
only peeing a small amount each time?
It is almost impossible to say what is going on
with her without a vet's examination and NO
way to help her at home.
I realize you said there is a snow storm but I
also live in snow country,I've gone out on icy
roads covering in snow and with snow blowing
across the road to get one of our fur kids to our
vet,you jusr drive slow and careful.
PLEASE try to find a way to get her in to her
veterinarian for treatment and help, this does
not sound like it can wait.
Your girl has given you more than 16 years of
love and devotion, you have given her excellent
care for her to live this long, she really needs
your help now.
Please let me ( us) know how things worked
out and if the problem was corrected.
