Advice on handling violent and stubborn children with down syndrome?

Hello, I just recently got a job as a one-on-one with a 7 year old boy with down syndrome for next school year. I have experience with children as I already work at the same elementary school, just not too much with children with disabilities. I have been forewarned that he is known to be quite a handful. He is known to not listen, spit, and even kick and hit. I was wondering if any of you have advice for dealing with this type of behavior. Thank you!
