For me I had the addiction protocol (multiple sessions over a certain period of time) for the smoking and found great relief. As for the head and neck pain, I found relief immediately that lasted several weeks. I had dealt with daily pain. I haven't been able to find the same type of practioner here (I was out of town at the time) and I would prefer to stick with this method.

Chinese acupuncture is not a total fix, but at some acupuncturists, I got enough help that I kept going back. Just having someone who spends a lot of time trying to help you is a comfort and I have had some help, although temporary, with pain. I used herbs with one that I felt helped.
The last acupuncturist I had was excellent (I've moved) at her craft, using massage and acupressure as well acupuncture. She felt I had chronic indication when she looked at my tongue that I had pain.
Japanese accupuncture method is with much smaller needles - I was surprised to see the MUCH larger size of the Chinese accupuncture needles. I didn't even feel the Japanese method needles. Both practioners explained to me is that with the chinese method they use a needle that starts larger and increases in size with additional sessions.
The kind of acupuncture I had in Canada the guy said he learned from some guy in Sri Lanka as well as training in the east. He made claims that didn't pan out for me and I complained to their better business bureau. He said he had a 94 percent success rate or something like that and for his failures, the people would only get migraines maybe six times a year. I have gotten 5-6 in one month in recent times and had even more migraine days prior to my hysterectomy!
