I have gotten help from acupuncture with pain, but I think it actually seemed to aggravate my P.O.T.S..

I have had success with head / neck pain relief as well as smoking cessation.  I find it to be a very useful additional resource in dealing with my body.

I had no success with accupuncture.  I have POTS, CFS/FMS, and migraines.

SurgiMenopause & laurab2818 just curious how many sessions you both had since your experiences were so different.

For me I had the addiction protocol (multiple sessions over a certain period of time) for the smoking and found great relief.  As for the head and neck pain, I found relief immediately that lasted several weeks.  I had dealt with daily pain.  I haven't been able to find the same type of practioner here (I was out of town at the time) and I would prefer to stick with this method.

I saw multiple acupuncturists and not all acupuncturists are equally skilled.   I've had many, many acupuncture treatments & even a different form of acupuncture (wasted thousands of dollars in Canada  at the Ontario Migraine Clinic on that kind because of the hope that was held out & I was desperate with my migraines).

Chinese acupuncture is not a total fix, but at some acupuncturists, I got enough help that I kept going back.  Just having someone who spends a lot of time trying to help you is a comfort and I have had some help, although temporary, with pain.  I used herbs with one that I felt helped.

The last acupuncturist I had was excellent (I've moved) at her craft, using massage and acupressure as well acupuncture.  She felt I had chronic indication when she looked at my tongue that I had pain.

I will agree with you, I didn't find as much success with the Chinese accupuncture.  I had a Japanese accpuncture practioner that I felt I had much more success with ( and the needles were much smaller and less painful).  They did use some heating device that I wasn't crazy about as I have issuse with body temp. regulation.

Actually, I wasn't downing Chinese acupuncture- it's what I've had the most help from.  Wow, smaller needles even then the Chinese?  I've never tried Japanese acupuncture before.  I believe I was treated by a Korean before, but not a Japanese.  I tried cupping once and don't recommend it.

Sorry, mis-read your post! : )
Japanese accupuncture method is with much smaller needles - I was surprised to see the MUCH larger size of the Chinese accupuncture needles.  I didn't even feel the Japanese method needles.  Both practioners explained to me is that with the chinese method they use a needle that starts larger and increases in size with additional sessions.

I had six sessions. Not sure if it was Chinese or Japanese.

They never mentioned any increase in the size for me through my multiple sessions.  I did have a reaction of erythema at times to the regular needles, so I did have one acupuncturist use a kind for hypersensitive people though.  Their needles were much smaller than venipuncture needles, I was told, and often didn't really bother me being inserted and I have sensitive skin.

The kind of acupuncture I had in Canada the guy said he learned from some guy in Sri Lanka as well as training in the east.  He made claims that didn't pan out for me and I complained to their better business bureau.  He said he had a 94 percent success rate or something like that and for his failures, the people would only get migraines maybe six times a year.  I have gotten 5-6 in one month in recent times and had even more migraine days prior to my hysterectomy!
