what happens if you have a reaction to your blood pressure meds.  I think I might just have a reaction to toprol.  I was experiencing tachy and high blood pressure. after calling my pc. he told me to take an extra 25mg. of toprol to decrease the bp.   the next day and the day after i experienced an odd swellng and discoloration and pain of my right hand.  I spend the day in the er. because of the discoloration and an x-ray said i had a fracture. however a ct taken later showed small tissue damage. once the swelling subsided, 5 days later, and the discoloration disappeared i still had a lot of pain in the hand, especially when i tried to use it. has anyone experienced this kink of reaction to a drug. my doctor now has me on a low dose of the toprol. only because of the bp. what am i going to do if i can't take the bp meds anymore to control my high bp or tachy.

I had a dystonic reaction to the drug phenerghan and compazine. They are both drugs that treat nausea.  My reaction started with unintentional tightening of muscles mostly in my upper body.  That lasted for a couple of days before I had an all out reaction.  That consisted of my jaw clamping shut so tight that I thought it would break.  All the muscles in my face were completely contorted and locked up as well as my chest and upper back muscles.  I was so thankful that I was a patient in the hospital at the time.  It was scary, but benadryl took the symptoms away.  I will never take those meds. again.
