Amazing discovery! + Request for turbinate hypertrophy reduction methods.

I have suffered from chronic nasal congestion for my entire life. Not surprisingly, I also suffer from asthma, chronic fatigue, sleep apnea, anxiety and the whole bag of related conditions.

I experienced an amazing result recently after combining regular nasal irrigation with a course of inhaled corticosteriods. The swelling in my turbinates reduced temporarily, and I found I could temporarily breathe through my nose.
The most important discovery from this experience was that I FELT FANTASTIC! Not just happy that I could breathe, but I felt a strong sensation of relaxation and pleasant energy throughout my body. My breathing became deeper and more relaxed, I experienced no asthma symptoms at all, my almost constant headaches disappeared and I felt awake and alert. I have been able to reproduce this a number of times since.

I have since put a lot of research into this phenomenon and learned some very interesting things about the parasympathetic nervous system receptors in the nasal mucosa and their effect on mood and general well being. I have also talked with sufferers of Empty Nose Syndrome who have had their turbinates removed, and now suffer many of the symptoms that I have lived with for most of my life.

Since that time I have researched non-stop into ways to reduce the chronic swelling of my turbinates. I want to avoid turbinate surgery, since anecdotal reports show that all current surgical techniques risk destroying the parasympathetic nerve receptors, which are responsible for bringing balance to the nervous system (relaxation and alertness).
Currently I am focusing on treating my severe reflux, since I have heard that this can lead to turbinate hypertrophy.
If this GERD surgery does not work, I don't know where to turn next.

Any advice that you can give in regards to non-destructive turbinate reduction treatments would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried dramatic dietary changes, living in an ultra-clean air filtered environment and courses of anti-histamines with no improvement.

Non destructive turbinate reduction is undertaken if it is indicated. One can try local steroid injections and cauterization. But first is topical steroid sprays.

Because of the risk of Empty Nose Syndrome and Atrophic Rhinitis, one embarks on turbinate reduction only if necessary and that too in a limited way.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I am on a course of steroid sprays. Unfortunately, steroid injections are no longer practiced in Australia because of the risk of permanent blindness.

hey bro, how does your nose problem affects you socially, physically and pychologically?.

mine is worst. socially speaking im became a hater.
when people who dont know me see me. they think im an addict. they stay away from me and stared at me. when ever i went to the stores those guard always look at me thinking am i thief.

this happens becuase im look sick. cant breathe on my nose because of a severe deviated septum. i always sniffing, not because i sniff the sinusitis but i sniff air. so large amount of air can pass to my block nose.

physically its also worst:

i dont enjoy sleeping. i only sleep because if i dont sleep i die. ^_^. so i tried to sleep.
i cant sleep good because. most of the time i stop breathing. when i woke up. i felt dizzy and tired. instead of feeling refresh , fatigue.

i also experience ache and numbness in some part of my body. maybe because i dont get enough oxygen.

my facial expression is horrible im look sick. my eye expression are always stare. maybe thats why those ignorant people think im going to steal there stuff.

my mind sometimes foggy.

im having an operation this march. i think its septum reduction.

another question bardcan. do you also experience social problems?.

before my nose was deviated, no problems at all. im attractive guy and handsome.
women somestimes the one who make a move to talk to me. but not they stayed away from me. ^_^

did you have a trauma to the nose?
all of the symptoms you're describing sound like they could be caused by what I'm talking about. I also tend to stare blankly into space, experience constant mental fogginess and social problems. Though, since I now have a much better understanding about why this is happening, I don't tend to let it affect me mentally anymore, or turn me into a 'hater'. I'm much more social now. I just tell people that I'm feeling sick, or that I have a migraine and they tend to understand.
These sensations can very easily lead to feelings of anxiety. Don't worry, you're not going crazy. You're not a freak or a loser, you're just dealing with some very strong physical sensations that will probably lessen after your nose surgery. Make sure you have a good, respected ENT surgeon. I was butchered by one surgeon and it took me many years and $25,000 to get back to OK health again.
RESEARCH! Take control of your health, and it will help make you feel more confident about your future.
Take care buddy

did you suffer a broken nose or a trauma of some kind to cause these problems?

it started when the tip of my nose was hit by a long object.(before, i dont know that i got this nose problem ).after that i started to change slowly.

before, i experience strong headaches and i feel very uncomfortable (before, i dont know why). most of the time  i had this angry expression of my face. (how in the world do you express your face in a good attractive way if you experience something like this). i remember my friend ask me "hey bro are you ok?". now i believe its started when my nose got hit. and it continue.... so on so on.

my nose will be fixed this march but i dont know if it going to fixed the damage it deal to my feelings towards other people.

i dont even do anything, because of this sick look of mine, they look at me as a bad guy or an addict or retard.
