Another ear surgery

Another ear surgery

My daughter had tubes in her ears last spring and now has a hole in her eardrum from the tubes. THe doctor has suggested getting it repaired and must use a skin graft. Is this absolutely necessary and is there any other options?

That sounds like tympanoplasty surgery...

I have had perforations in my ear all my life, but did have tubes inserted because of ear infections when I was little... Maybe 10 years ago or so, I had the tubes taken out, the hole never closed...

I don't know if he will go behind the ear or what though.. It doesn't sound like it but I would think it should be okay...

I've been thinking....

She should be okay with that hole in the eardrum.... But might want her to wear some ear plugs when she goes swimming since the water would go into the ears....

When I did go underwater for a few seconds, my ears didn't hurt but I had the tubes in at the time...

I've never really had my head under water when I went swimming and stuff so I don't know if the ear would be hurting...

But if she ever got water in her ears, could hop on one foot and tilt the head towards the ear that has the hole so water can come out.
