BPPV Question

During a Carotid scan, the operator apparently pressed down hard enough to do a 'massage', suddenly I became very dizzy and nauseous.  It lasted about 4 to 5 seconds.
Since then, and it's been about 3 weeks, whenever I move my head suddenly, look up and even roll over in bed, I  become dizzy and I feel as if I am losing my balance to the my right side.  The nausea has just about gone away.

I am 62, I do not have high blood pressure.  The results of the carotid scan were good.

Would the scan, or 'carotid massage', if you will, cause these symptoms or was this just a coincidence?

One has to understand the mechanics of the Vestibular system....  basically you have some crystalates in the vestibular system, and if they are dislodged and float to another area where they do not belong, they will stimulate an area of the vestibular system that should not be stimulated.

In other words the vestibular system will be sending the brain very confused information. In a normal situation it usually takes a lot more than just laying down, and turning your head a certain direction to dislodge one some of these crystalates.  For example, jumping on a trampoline, car wreck, horse back rideing, amusement park rides, and my favorite...  one fellow juggled a soccer ball on his head for about 45 minutes.

So did the CT scan dislodge something....  I don't think it did, I think it was already dislodged just waiting for the opertunity to arise to manifest itself by positioning your head just right allowing it to float to a region of the system where it should not be.

You need to find an ENT that both ENG studies, complete with the Dix Hallpike and that will do the Epley Maneuver.  You can google about that if you would like.  Many insurances do not cover for the Epley, so some ENTs are not interested in it.

Good luck, a lot of folks do not want to deal with balance disorders because they are a bag of worms to deal with.
