Bizarre pain in neck near throat

Hello all:

About three weeks ago I began staying with a friend with 2 cats (which I'm pretty allergic to), and had been taking Clariton. I then starting having short but stabbing pains in my neck: not quite my throat, but seemingly above and to the right just a hair.  After about a week of increasing pain, I went to the Dr who gave me nasal spray and Clarinex for post nasal drip and acute allergic sinusitis, and said I had fluid in my left ear... the drugs seemed to help a bit, making that pain less frequent. When I came back home, the pain still persisted though it seemed my PND had left, so i went to another Dr who just told me it was allergies again and gave me more Clariton. Sometimes the pain is gone for a day or two but returns, but I've noticed it seems mostly to reappear when I'm phlegmy and it feels like I have something cramming up my nasal sinus. Is it just the mucus against an irritated... I have no idea what? Blowing my nose, popping my ears and taking clariton all seem to have no affect on it.
Thanks in advance!

have you seen a dentist?  it could be a stone in the gland or as bizzarre as it sounds, tonsils can grow back.  It might also be scar tissue from tonsilectomy.

I've had my submandibular gland removed due to a stone.  I've had the same symptoms prior to.  Currently, my left side of the neck still feels tight and pain upon touch.  I'm having a dentist check my molar on left side to see if there is some type of infection brewing.  Will give feedback.

Is it specific to one side of your neck?  Could it be a saliva gland and not a nasal passage?  It could be a salivary gland stone.  If it seems like it comes and goes, gets worse when you do something that could cause you to get dehydrated (drinking lots of caffeine, not drinking enough fluid, drinking alcohol) - it might be a salivary gland stone.  You will feel "clogged/swollen" on one side of your neck near the jaw - it can feel like an ear infection at times.  The reason it gets worse when you get dehydrate is your saliva thickens and a small non-obstructing stone that doesn't cause problems under normal circumstances could cause the gland to get backed up when the thicker fluid tries to pass around it.  Good luck!
