Bizzare Ear Problems - No doctor suggestions

by kyleh, Oct 10, 2009 01:44PM
Hi,
Little about my situation. I'm a 22yr old male who has had tinnitus for about 8 years now. It has gradually gotten worse in both years over the years. My ears have now reached a point of hyper sensitivity. Basically I have been reduced to wearing ear plugs in any event that brings about loud noise - concerts, bars, house parties, loud car music, work that involves a hammer, etc. The ****** thing is that through all this I can always hear my tinnitus, and it hits my ears on different frequencies in both ears, just to make it that more intolerable. Now the weird part. I have exceptional hearing. In my audiograms I can clearly detect sounds at -10 to -20 db from the lowest bass all the way to 18000hz. The doctor has no suggestions what so ever as to my condition.

My Problem: About four months ago I went to a dance club. I wore my ear plugs the entire time as I always do now a days. I was walking around at one point, and ventured through a narrow path way to a lounge area. A speaker was put up in the walk way i went through. I basically got hit in my left ear at point blank with a heavy blast of bass. Now the sound did not leave any ringing as I had my plugs in, but what did occur was a sensation of stream of air being pressed into my ear. Since then my left ear has felt like a piece of cotton has been shoved down it and that my ear needs to pop all the time. Again I went to the ENT to get my hearing tested, and I scored exactly the same as I always do. No hearing damage. Whatever this is is starting to affect my life pretty badly. I no longer sleep well because I am so aware of the differences in my ear. It sometimes makes me feel off balance as well. I'm pretty desperate for any suggestions you might have.

Thanks so much
