CHRONIC LOSS OF BALANCE (HELP!!!!!)

I am very scared. Just 7 days ago, when I disembarked the ferry, I started having this loss of balance sensation (like when airplane is slowly/steadily climbing/descending) and and it has not gotten away. I had the flu afterward and went to see my family doctor. I told him also, I have this loss of balance sensation. Other than this feeling, I do not have pain in my neck, back, head, or anywhere. He did mention to me that I do have a nose allergy in which I am not aware.

It has now been more than 7 days, this loss of balance sensation is still there and is very persistent. I feel good in my eating, sleeping and strength. So what seems to be the problem??? I am 27 years old and i am so scared of this.!!! Please help.

Go see a Dr that specializes in balance disorders.  I developed vestibular neuritis after a severe viral infection.  If you see the right Dr they will do a test where water is put into the ear canal and they can diagnosis a difference between right and left that would confirm if it is neuritis.  The majority of people get better in 6 to 8 weeks.  Unfortuantely I did not and it is was a year before I founf the right specialist who got me into vestibular rehab.  The rehab was brutal as you have to do everything that makes your balance off several times a day so you relearn how to balance.  You can get better if you get the right treatment.

Sounds like your might have an inner ear problem. I get that wit the loss of balance sensation too. I have not found anything that really cures it either.  It sometimes can be the fluid in the middle ear.  There is an inner ear problem called BPPV - particles of calcium normally found in your ear break off and float into the ear's semicircular canal. Once there, they interfere with your balance and cause vertigo. Medicines, disease, aging, or a head injury are some of the things that may cause the particles to break off.  They can do some movements to fix that.  I get fed up though trying to figure out what causes inner ear problems and in most cases the doctors say they can't find anything and you're left feeling like you are crazy or something.  Let me know if you find out anything that helps.
