Chronic Infections

History:

-Chronic Ear Infections from 6-12 months (5 infections).  Treated with Omnicef, Augmentin, Cliacin, Rocephin Shots, Bactrim, etc.  Also on Claritin/Singulair at 10 months for sinus/allergy issues.

-Myringotomy at 12 months, with 10 day run of Augmentin and 6 day run of antibiotic ear-drops post-op.

-2 subsequent ear infections from 12-16 months.  Treated with Augmentin, Bactrim.  Still on Claritin/Singulair for sinus/allergy issues.

-Second myringotomy and adenoidectomy at 16 months.  Very infected sinus cavities and ears. 10 day run of Augmentin and 6 day run of antibiotic ear-drops post-op.

-Second myringotomy was due to complete 'plugging' of both tubes and continuing ear infections.

-RAST test showed Level 2 Egg White Allergy (all egg products removed from diet).

-1 day off post-antibiotic (11 days post-op): fever, effusion from ear, green sinus drainage.

-Doctor appt 13 days post-surgery (weekend) showed ear infection, sinus infection.  Back on Bactrim for 10 day run. Singulair changed to Zyrtec.

-ENT wants to see child 1 day off Bactrim for a re-assessment.  Staph has been mentioned, but a culture at 13 months grew no staph.

-We have 9 days left..thought on our next steps here or what ENT will suggest?

Definitely follow up with ENT.

At this point, given the history, I'd be considering things such as immune deficiency, ciliary motility problems, cystic fibrosis variants...

Seeing an Immunologist may be in order.

Child is never around smokers or animals.
