Chronis sinus infection

Chronis sinus infection

I have had asthma and allergies all my life.  My asthma is pretty well controlled right now with Advair, I have been getting allergy shots for a few years, I am also on Nasonex and take Claritin-D daily. I used to use a netti pot, it made me feel a little less congested but it didn't seem to prevent or get rid of the infections.

For the last year I have been getting sinus infections over and over.  At first antibiotics helped and my infections and they would go away for a couple months.  But they started coming back more often, and now the antibiotics are not working and I have been sick for the last 4 months straight.  My symptoms start with a day or 2 of a sore throat, postnasal drip, slightly short of breath, (albuterol inhaler doesn't really help), and then I start coughing. Sometimes it is productive and I cough up yellow phlem, sometimes I just hack. Then I get the nasal congestion-I blow my nose and a ton of yellow mucus comes out.

In general it is usually a 2-3 week cycle, and then starts all over again.  My allergist has tried a few different antibiotics, and had me get a sinus x-ray which came back "normal"...I think that means no obstructions or nasal polyps. Next he thought it was acid reflux or laryngopharengeal reflux and put me on Prilosec for a couple weeks, which didn't help, and then Acifex which I have now been taking for a couple weeks. I had a Barium Swallow done this week, which also came back "normal", but my doctor told me to continue the Acifex.  He also lowered my dose of Advair from 500 to 250 (thinking the Advair may be causing excess mucus?) and took me off Nasonex and put me on a different nasal spray-Astepro. Right now I am at the end of a sinus infection...but I know that in a few days the sore throat will start and the cycle will start all over again.

These infections are starting to take a toll on my work life and social life.  I take time off from work all the time to go to doctors appointments.  Every time I feel well enough to go to the gym I end up with a sore throat the next day and a new infection starts.  Same thing happens when I try to have one alcoholic drink...I get a sore throat the next day.

Does anyone else have these symptoms?  Is this chronic sinus infections or something else?  Please Help.

I had all of the same problems, and I was under the care of the best allergist in Texas, as far as I know, to no avail. What happens is the infection gets lodged in your upper sinuses ( the frontals and sphenoids) and antibiotics aren't effective enough to get it due to low blood circulation, and it just keeps coming back.  The neti pot is ineffective in reaching the upper sinuses.

I cured the problem with a radical saline irrigation, called the Flip-Turn Sinus Flush.  My journal will explain, in scientific terms, and Mayo Clinic research, why it works, when nothing else seems to.

The Flip-Turn Sinus Flush is mildly risky, because you have to bend over to do it, preferably in a shower, but you can also do it outside on soft ground.
