Hi, I have had a clogged ear (Left) for about a year now. It has made the left side of my face, head and sometimes neck numb(ish) I can only hear a little from it. I have used ear candles and tried to flush it out myself. I do not wish to go to the doctor unless it is very necessary but it is bothering me ALOT. I was wondering if anyone could help me with how to flush it myself, or what else to do. Could it cause any damage to my ear for having it left for so long? Could it be because of something severely wrong with something else and my ear being clogged is just a side effect? Please help!
Uhh, I thought my ear was just "plugged" for a long time... turns out I had a severe, permanent hearing loss in it!
Ear candles are useless and dangerous. Go to your doctor and see if you have impacted wax or some other conductive problem (meaning a problem with the outer or middle ear, problems that can usually be taken care of) or a sensorineural hearing loss (meaning a problem with the inner ear, which CANNOT be fixed.) The numbness could be a sign something else is wrong.
If your regular doctor cannot figure things out, you will need to go to an ENT and get a hearing test with their audiologist.
