Combination of Sinusitis, ear pain and sore tonsils

I have a history of sinus problems and also have enlarged tonsils that lead to frequent sore glands and ear pain. I stay on the generic for Claritin (Loratadine 10 mg) daily and use a Netipot to do sinus rinses every evening. I have tried using sprays like Flonase or Nasonex, but they do not help. Even with taking steps to control post nasal drip and inflammation, I still get frequent sinus infections.
My primary Dr prescribes antibiotics several times a year. She also referred me to an ENT this past June and after his exam and review of sinus x-rays which he called normal, he concluded that I should see an Allergy specialist. He did not even comment about my tonsil situation or do that complete an exam. The allergist referral is in effect, but have not seen the Dr yet. Dust and mold effect me and have an indoor cat -so that may not help, but have had these issues well before the cat and I am 62 and as long as I can remember, even as a cild had frequent colds, sore throats,etc.
My questions are; how often is it safe to take antibiotics? Have taken either amoxicillin, augmenten or biaxin at differnt times. Anyone else else use another medication?
Surgery to take out the tonsils is not an option I want to consider. How to prevent this repeated cycle? I drink lots of water, eat healthy, but seem to pick things up at work . The office has poor air cicrculation and either is too warm or cold. We can not control the temp in this 12 story building.
Any tips on how to avoid another Fall/Winter of repeated trips to the Dr because of sinus and throat infections?
