Constant nose bleed.

by hawaiianislandboyz, Apr 07, 2007 12:00AM
Hi my niece has been having problems with her nose.  It's been bleeding about 4 times in one day for the past 5 days.

Is this a serious condition?  Should she go directly to the hospital or wait to see a nose, ear and throat specialist.

At the moment she is in no pain.

Appreciate any feed back.

Aloha,
Anthony

You could go to an ENT but nose bleeds could be caused from several problems. Going to a family Dr. or an internist might be a better option. A family doctor or internist will be able to preform a blood test which may be able to rule out many options.  For instance constant nose bleeds could be caused form having low blood platelets (platelets make blood clot.) There could be many other reasons for bleeding. I hope everything works out okay.

it is Osler Weber Rendu. It's a genetic hereditary thing, my whole family has it. Nose bleeds are the first most common sign. Mike is just purple spots on my lips and hands, but many in family has nose bleeds. Most dr's dont know a lot about it, so you have to tell them. my sister went through hell until we told them to check for OWR and he found it in her liver. Look it up, she'll be okay.

i was sitting on my couch, and my nose just started to bleed really bad, I've been getting them since I was a kid and I'm 25 now. Could it be caused by stress or something?
