Coughing/breathing

Was in the emergency room due to a coughing/choking fit so bad it knocked me to my knees at work, they did some tests said it sounds like bronchitis & perhaps an asthma attack along w/it- sent me on my way with an inhaler and a steroid perscription....?? I have since had 3 more attacks....it starts out as coughing then turns to choking -almost like a thick film deep inside my throat is preventing me from taking in oxygen. I can't cough it up and can't swallow it, and when I do its a clear phlem. The inhaler does nothing and the coughing is the ONLY symptom I have.
