Crackling and Popping in ear

I have a constant crackling and clicking in my right ear  followed by an occasional loud popping whenever I swallow or move my jaw.
I have had this looked by a TMJ and ear doctor which there was no fluid found and no abnormality to the jaw.
This has been going on ever since developed a middle ear infection back in 10/07.
What does it appear could be going on ?
Who should I see regarding these symptoms

I have the same thing, but in my left ear.  I've had mine since flying at the tail end of a cold in February of this year.  I had severe ear pain in both ears on the descent as I was not able to equalize my ears.  I had to fly home again the next day with painful ears.  I'm sure this did some damage similar to what a middle ear infection would do.  The past couple of weeks, I've started to get fleeting pains in that same ear.  I've been to an ENT and three doctors, and none saw any fluid in my ear.  Every doctor I saw had a different response.  The ENT said, "Oh, just air not pressurizing properly."  I'm assuming (since he did not elaborate or do further tests to see why) that my Eustachian Tube is not opening and closing properly due to inflammation.  Two doctors told me they had no idea what it was, and the third said to just take an allergy medication such as Benadryl (with no explanation what it was or suggesting allergy testing first) and after a five minute visit.

I'm trying to find out right now WHY my Eustachian Tube is not functioning properly, and how to fix this.  But I need to find a doctor who will take the time to actually evaluate me properly, treat it properly, and explain the problem to me.

So I'm assuming you have the same thing going on with your Eustachian Tube (from research I've done on the internet).

Now, it's time to try to figure out why this is happening to us.

Best of luck.

My boyfriend has the same problem.. He had sinus surgery a few years ago and has the crackling noise along with vertigo and pressure... a few days ago I was massageing around his ear and gently pressed on the TMJ and the crackling stopped.. but when I let go it came back... the ENTs and M.Ds have told him its Menieres disease.. we dont agree with it.. I recently made him an appointment with the dentist to check his TMJ.. he said it wasnt anything wrong with it, but did not do an xray..??? I dont know what to do anymore... this is driving him crazy!!
