Damage after being choked?

I was in an abusive relationship and my BF choked me several times.  I am finding it hard to swallow, food seems to get stuck in my throat all the time now.  Is it possible this is damage from the choking?

I have also been diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism.  Could it be that an elarged parathyroid would cause this?

Leave him and worry about the aftermath/consequences later. I left my verbally abusive ex-bf and my only regret was that I should have done it sooner. Men like that will get theirs in the end. If their karma does not get them back while living, they will still get what they deserve in the end--this I know.

I was choked 4-9-2017 by my husband. He choked me for almost a minute, my lymph nodes are very swollen, it hurts to move my neck and I have bruising on my neck. He belittles me and makes me feel like trash, he makes all the money so nothing is mine to him. Its hard to get away from someone who you are dependant upon (stay at home mom of two for the past 7yrs) I would leave if I could, just feel so trapped since I dont have any money, job, to support my kids.

My prayers are with you and your children. Even your husband. Please stay strong love. It may seem hard but please take care of yourself. Think of your children who have to see you this way.

I am in the same situation. My husband shoved a rag in my mouth and down my throat, duck tapped my whole body, my face and head leaving my nose and eyes exposed. He then got behind me pressed his knees into my back, arching my back. My spine felt like it was about to snap. He then covered my nose and squeezed. He yelled, (***** you will summit or you will die." I wouldn't summit and all of a sudden my ears felt different, sound, sounded far off but close. I was ready to die,but I seen why he left my eyes exposed. I seen my 4yr old and 6yr old boys, jumping up and down, tears flowing down their beautiful faces'. They started screaming, for him to stop hurting their mommy. He made them watch. My husband then said, " if you don't summit you will die right here." I did my best to let him know, that I was summiting. I am sick of not knowing, is this my last day on earth. The worst part is him making my boys watch. My 6yr ran to get help, but his daddy carried him back sat him down and made it worse.
People don't understand what we go through. They think it's easy to leave and it is not. But until they walk in our shoes, they really shouldn't judge. I was beat on, choked and Burt with a cigarette, today.
I hope, we that go through this battle, find ourselves again. Bless you and I wish you nothing, but safety and happiness.I just hope and pray, for the safety, freedom and happiness,of your children and their mommy YOU. Because they need their mommy.
My husband of 16 years has always been verbally abusive but 3 days ago he got mad at me and grabbed me by the throat and pushed me up against the wall he never has laid a hand on me till now. I’m so scared and upset I don’t know what to do I just had knee replacement and not feeling the best so I’m not working I’m trying to hang on until I can get back to work. The stress of it all makes me feel so sick. I just want to get away.
@jacqjacq3 how terrible of you to stay with a man like that.  He is absusing your kids.  I hope you left and went to a shelter and any woman reading this knows it is NOT okay to experience that kind of abuse in front of children. You have a responsibility as a mother to protect them. Get OUT. There are resources to help.

Was choked/strangled in Oct 2016, it is now Feb 2017 and I still have flashbacks of the incident and am suffering affects of it. My throat feels like there is a peice in it that sometimes gets stuck. My voice is different, its harsher sounding at times and I cant sing and hold a note as long as I used to. PLEASE go to a Dr as soon as you can, damage can be lasting up, and it can lead to scarring which resulted in my changed voice. No one has the right to make you feel like your life is easy to take away, and no one has the right to take your voice away. PLEASE see a dr, lie if need be and say you were wrestling, but just.go.to.a.doctor!!!!!!

Was wondering if your throat ever healed. I'm going on 2 weeks and it feels like i still have something stuck in my throat. The pain is minor and uncomfortable.
That how i feel can gives you the anxiety

This is clearly an old post but my boyfriend tends to like choking during sex. I'm quite submissive (feel like I have no choice either way) and "allow" him to. He doesnt do it too long or hard but 2 days ago he literally choked me out and I told him to stop and he thought I was "joking" and I literally choked on my spit and like.... It was the worst experience ever. Yesterday I realized a sore neck and kinda sore throat but thought nothing of it. Now today, 2 days after, I cannot swallow my spit comfortably and ive been drinking tea since waking up. I don't wanna tell a Dr but I'm not sure if this pain is serious or not BC I never felt this before. ):

I've been strangled a couple of time now, it never got to the point where i loose consciousness or anything like that. but afterwards i'm always nauseous, and the pain in my neck/throat is almost unbearable. But ever since  the last time this happened (about 4-5 days ago), it feels like there is something in my throat, every time i swallow i feel this little "ball/bump" thing in my throat, on the left lower side. it doesn't hurt if i swallow or anything, and my neck and throat doesn't pain anymore. so i'm not sure what this could be. i'm also nauseous after anything/everything i eat.

Not sure if anyone can tell me what this might be. i cant go to the doctor at this moment, i would just like to know if i should be concerned.

Thanks

I got choked for the first time on 6/2/16, and will be the last time! I ran to next door, they called police for me and he was arrested. Now I am waiting for court day. I went to ER and Urgent care to get examed, they didn't seem to care much but x-ray my arm fully. My neck/throat is uncomfortable, I am having more and more hard time swallow. Sad to hear so many out there experienced these?! I am going to schedule for my primary physician to check the whole thing for me. I will make him pay!

I realize that this is an old post, but I feel that somebody has to let you know that yes, it is a very offensive (insensitive) question to post. We are people that have gone through very traumatic and life altering experiences & trying to find answers for the serious physical (not mentioning the emotional) after-effects.
You are lucky that you don't know the feeling during or after being choked first hand. If you are doing research for a book, I suggest talking to doctors, review medical journals, ufc fighters, etc. You could even post a request such as "I am an author doing research for an upcoming novel. Is there anybody who has been through the experience of being choked that is willing to share the after effects with me?".

Scared when realising he passed out Via lack of breath, Pain when swallowing, bloodshot eye or eyes, racing heart, fear that the pain from swallowing will lead to throat closing.
Thats my experience in a nut shell.
Not very pleasent.
Hope this helped.

Would feel like head was detached from the body - like you're a rag doll and you need to physically hold it up - not because of pain but because the muscles don't work. However, pain is a big part of being choked too. Nerve pain, sharp, bouncing around the arms like knives. Have to concentrate on breathing to be able to do it. Can't breath and talk and swallow at the same time - must concentrate on each task. Talking is extremely difficult. Breathing is labored and strained but involuntarily interrupted.Swallowing difficult. I felt like water was coming out the side of my neck when I drank hours later. Involuntary defecating while passed out. Constant nausea and feeling of death for three weeks. Unable to lay flat without feeling like head is going to fall off. Red swollen eyes. Swelling in back of neck lasts about a week. Little bruising at first. Deep black bruises that appear in throat region two-five days later but disappear after a few days. Black spots that appear in the eyes three weeks later and last for two weeks.  Looming feeling of death.
Also red streaking in skin running down the neck toward the shoulders lasts about five days.
Also no offense taken. It is important that people know the damage that being choked can cause. Laws are just recently being changed to include choking as an aggravated assault charge. Prolonged silence never helped anyone.
I was just recently choked, along with other violent acts by my fiancé.  Nothing to the extent of what I just read.   I just wanted to say thank you so much for your inputs on this Site.  I have felt alone and this helps.  Also, my prayers are with you as I can't imagine how awful those aftereffects have caused.   I hope that I can be as courageous as you to stay strong.

Everyone needs to get out of these relationships.  This is insane. Of course you'll have trouble swallowing after being choked. Go to the ER, have his @ss arrested, and never go back.

I had an incident with my ex-fiance today, although what occurred was the last straw. I am one of the women that was with a man who like to have bipolar trips and get very violent. As well as stay with this man because I loved him and things would get better. WRONG!! Until i had very a long talk with a close friend of mine who showed, told, and let me mentally know and feel the strength I had to just no longer care or put up with the BS. Things got violent from slapping to punching and choking, all to me. and all above the chest region. I was choked by his forearm and it got really scary I am a petite woman, and he is a 6'6" 300 lb man bearing his weight on my neck. It wasn't for a very long time although my neck is very sore close to the bottom of my neck and towards the sides. It does not hurt to swallow i just feel like i could throw up. Will marks and pain increase over several days because this is horrible.

I feel like the hard to swallow thing is a physical reaction to daily anxiety. I feel like my esophagus need adjusted sometime and it's crunchy. I had neck problems before really being choked hard.

This is ironic. I complained to my doctor that my throat feels achy and as if it is closing up and is scratchy and it has been hard to swallow. I have also been hoarse. I wrap up tight in the cold weather to be careful not to get sick, since I am taking anti rejection drugs from receiving a heart transplant a little over a year ago. A few days past 3 weeks ago, my long time now ex-boyfriend went off into some kind of fanatical rage and choked my larynx by depression for about 30 to 40 seconds. I thought I was going to die. I called the police and now that he has been arrested, all of a sudden he has voluntary memory lapse of choking me. When it happened, I went to the emergency room to get checked out since he had also hit me with a fisted hand to the face several times. My right eye had the most damage and I thought it was specifically from the strikes to my face. I had multiple people inform me that this is what happens when a person is choked  and the blood vessels in your eyes begin to burst.  I have also experienced a blood clot in some mucus coughed from my throat. I will need to contact my doctor again to find out what toll this might take on my new transplant. I did a search about the clot because nothing like that has ever happened before and I figured it might have something to do with the choking incident.
