My fathers throat has a swollen gland and he says theres no pain, but he has been wakeing up fior the last week with blood in his throat .  I was shocked when he went to the sink and  spit out a large amount of bright red blood, he said it runs down the back of his throat on and off all day.  My father is 80 years old., we have been calling  the E,N,T,  and waiting on the referral but still nothing in almost 2 weeks.  My father is getting worse everyday that goes by he is very weak and sleeps almost all day.  Also he showed no B-12 and has to get shots for the next four weeks.

Hi, please get her investigated for sputum examination (AFB) to rule out tuberculosis, Chest X ray too. Any history of fever, weight loss?  Causes for blood in sputum may be due to aspergilloma, bronchiectasis, coccidioidomycosis, pulmonary embolism,  lung neoplasm and also esophageal and gastric ulcertions.

Hence, proper investigation is needed.
